Performance doors for the medical & healthcare sector
When specifying doors for a hospital, medical centre or any other medical or healthcare facility, the chances are that at least some of those doors will need to meet some very specific and sometimes specialist performance criteria.
The good news is that at Performance Doors, we have the expertise and the product range to supply any and every door that is required for your healthcare project – all made by us in the UK to the highest standards.
Our range of solutions for this sector is very comprehensive, so this will be the first in a series of three emails dedicated to the healthcare sector:
- Week 1: Hygiene
- Week 2: Privacy and access control
- Week 3: Durability and specialist applications
Hygiene is of paramount importance to any healthcare environment. The doors may be opened and closed hundreds of times every day, and now more than ever, we must take steps to limit the spread of infection from one person to the next. At Performance Doors we have a range of solutions that are designed with hygiene in mind. Here’s a quick overview:
The first solution is to encapsulate the doors in a waterproof outer layer. This means they can be thoroughly cleaned as often as necessary and the doors will not suffer any water damage. What’s more, almost all of our doors can be encapsulated in this way, including fire doors, acoustic doors, x-ray doors, security doors and more – just tell us that you need them encapsulated and we’ll take care of it.
Of course, there is no substitute for regular cleaning, but we can help reduce the spread of infections further with our antimicrobial finish – a special coating that is impregnated into the encapsulation material at the point of manufacture. It is proven to kill 99.9% of bacteria and keeps working throughout the life of the door.
How often these days do you open a door and then, conscious of the number of people who have touched the door before you, feel the need to wash your hands? At Performance Doors we have a range of solutions to this problem. It is sometimes possible to specify the doors to swing both ways so that they can be opened with the foot rather than the hand (in which case we can reinforce the door to withstand the constant kicking), but we also have some clever hardware solutions for hands-free operation and can offer fully-automated doors using touch-free sensors.
Far reaching applications
Whilst these hygiene solutions have been designed with the healthcare sector in mind, they are equally suitable for use in other buildings like sports centres, libraries, schools and offices where cleanliness has never been more important.
