As a result of Dame Judith Hackitt’s independent review of Building Regulations and fire safety, the Government is proposing to introduce new levels of accountability for compliance with the regulations in multiple-occupancy buildings.
These changes will see the implementation of a ‘golden thread of accountability’ throughout the supply chain. It will affect manufacturers, building designers, contractors, sub-contractors, project managers, building owners and those managing, letting or leasing the building.
These accountable people will need to be able demonstrate upon demand, that the doors in the building are fully certified, have been installed correctly, are properly maintained, have been repaired or replaced as necessary, and have not been altered outside of the scope of the testing and certification regime.
These are significant changes with potentially serious consequences for non-compliance.
